Security on any computer system is a high priority, especially when the system involves many users. If users identify a security problem on the Internet, the system administrator must be notified immediately. The problem should not be demonstrated to other users.
Attempts to log on to the Internet as a system administrator or on another account will result in cancellation of user privileges. Any user identified as a security risk or having a history of malpractice may be denied access to the Internet through the Ferndale Schools.
Restrictions on Controversial Material
Worldwide access to computers and people introduces the availability of material which has questionable educational value in a school setting. The Ferndale Public School district has taken precautions to restrict access to controversial materials; however, on a global network it is impossible to control all materials and users may discover controversial information. The school district firmly believes the valuable information and interaction available on this world-wide network far outweigh the possibility that users may access material not consistent with the educational goals of the District. The Ferndale Schools, its Board of Education and administrators cannot be held responsible for any inappropriate or controversial materials accessed by students.
These Guidelines and the Board Internet Use Policy are provided here so users are aware of the responsibilities they must accept. In general this requires efficient, ethical and legal use of the internet network resources. Access to the Internet is a privilege, and inappropriate use will result in the cancellation of this privilege. If a Ferndale Schools user violates any of these provisions, his or her account will be terminated. Ferndale Schools Internet users are required to sign the Technology Responsibility Form acknowledging they have read and understand the terms and conditions under which they are permitted access to district technology and to the Internet.
