The board consists of seven school district residents.
At a special Board of Education meeting held December 6, 2011 the Board voted to approve election changes that will move Board member elections from an annual May election to November even-year elections, with the initial election in this format to be held in November 2012. In addition, the Board approved changing the terms, in accordance with election statute for all newly elected board members from four-years to six-years.
A transition plan has been designed to accommodate the approved changes and timelines. Although no current board member will serve a six-year term, the plan calls for all current board members’ terms to be extended through a one-time adjustment, some for six months, some for 18 months. Only newly elected board members will serve six year terms after the 2012 election. As part of the transition plan, in the first election, the two candidates who receive the greatest number of votes will receive six-year terms, with the next two highest candidates receiving four-year terms.
