Acceptable Use

The use of the internet must support education and research, and be consistent with the educational objectives of the Ferndale Schools. Minimum standards of acceptable use require that Ferndale Schools Internet users comply with the following:

  • Respect the privacy of other users; users must not intentionally seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files, other data, or passwords belonging to other users, or represent themselves as another user.
  • Respect copyright and license agreements provided as legal protection to programs and data.
  • Respect the integrity of computing systems; users must not intentionally develop programs that harass other users or infiltrate a computer/computing system and/or damage/alter the software components of a computer/computing system.
  • Practice the generally accepted rules of network etiquette.

Network Etiquette:

  1. Be polite: abusive messages are unacceptable.
  2. Use appropriate language. Do not swear, use vulgarities or any other inappropriate language.
  3. Never give out your home address or phone number, or that of other students or colleagues.
  4. Do not use the network in any way that could disrupt the use of the network by other users.
  5. Respect all communications and information you access as private property.
  6. Illegal activities are strictly forbidden. Messages relating to or in support of illegal activities may be reported by the system administrator to police authorities. E-mail communication is monitored for appropriateness.
