Federally funded under the (WIOA) Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act through Ferndale Public Schools, the youth and young adult program offers income eligible young people (ages 16-24) the opportunity to intern with local businesses and organizations.  
Internships/Paid Work Experience
These internships/paid work experience are short-term, run year-round and are designed to help participants build upon their basic work skills, work maturity, soft skills and occupation specific skills. Internships are paid - wages and primary workman’s compensation is paid for through the Ferndale Michigan Works! WIOA program (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act).

Other Services Provided (available for all youth and young adult):
• Occupational Skills enhancement
• Vocational Training information (Scholarships may be available)
• Job search assistance for youth 16-24
• Work Permits for youth 14-18
• Resume Assistance,  Interview Preparation and Soft Skills  Workshops

We also work with our Business Service Department to:
• Connect students to employers who are hiring teens
• Reach out to employers who may be interested in providing co-op experiences to juniors and seniors
• Teach workshops on career, resumes, interviews, self-leadership, personal branding and social media for job search. These can be tied into current curriculum.
• Provide information on Generation Z in the workforce to educators, parents, administration and students
• Continue to funnel information on the Skilled Trades and other "bright outlook" careers to appropriate school personnel (counselors, teachers, administration) to be used in class and via social media platforms
• Identify employers who will utilize OJT or Apprenticeship funds to hire young employees
• Present at Parent/Student "Career Pathways" events

Overall Goal of Program
The goal of the program is to help youth and young adults gain the skills necessary to obtain unsubsidized employment and continue to progress toward a successful future.
