Our goal is to provide extension services for all students to support their ongoing success. Instead of providing a typical summer school program with a short duration we would expand into camp like sessions.

Music & Movement Classes

Discover rhythms and games to support your child’s brain development, featuring hands-on learning with a variety of instruments. Classes are led by Ferndale High School alumnus Jacob Traines, an All-State musician currently in his 3rd year at Wayne State studying Music Education.

Cook & Garden Camp

THIS CAMP HAS ENDED
 
This camp is focused on outdoor learning experiences that will support hands on learning. Students will develop math, science, and reading skills that are built into the project based learning cycle.

Maker Space Camp

2 weeks: June 19 - 22 & June 26 - 29
 
This camp is designed with the creative, thinker in mind. During camp students will plan, develop and make.

S.T.E.M. Camp

2 weeks: July 10  - 13 & July 17 - 20
 
S.T.E.M. stand for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This camp is designed with science, technology, robots and fun in mind. If your child loves to think, problem solve and learn with his/her hands this camp will provide your child extension activities that will boost his/her math, science, and problem solving skills.

Music & Movement Camp

This camp is designed to support learning through music and movement. Campers will focus on specific skills such as reading, math, science, and social studies through a multi sensory approach to learning.

Reader's Theater Camp

Keeping up with our reading skills is essential to everything we do. This summer we’ve decided to take reading to the next level through a Reader’s Theatre design. Each day students will enhance their individual reading levels through play, theatre, dance and movement.

Confidence Camp

This camp is focused on helping each student develop self esteem, attentional skills, problem solving techniques and confidence that will foster his/her success for the following school year. Camp teachers will use Ferndale’s Social Emotional Learning Plan to drive the success of this camp.

Kindergarten JumpStart

Kindergarten Jump Start is 4 half days of fun free to all students who are registered to attend Kindergarten in the Fall of 2017. What a great way to meet the Kindergarten staff, learn new friends and begin to understand the day to day expectations of Kindergarten.

Band & Orchestra Camp

During the summer, it is easy for kids to say “I’ll practice next week,” and soon it is next month, then the new school year, and “next week” never happened. That is why we are happy to offer the Ferndale Public School’s Summer Band and Orchestra Program!

All instructional sessions of the program will take place at Ferndale High School/Middle School Pinecrest campus in the middle school band room and the orchestra room. Mr. Burke and Mr. Moy will lead the ensemble rehearsals, and sectional coaches will offer small group instruction every single day.

Maker Camp: App-Design w/ GoIT

At this four-day technology camp, middle school students engage actively in computational thinking by using a student-driven exploration of community-centered issues. Students work in teams to identify a problem, generate possible solutions, wireframe their prototypes, develop & test their mobile apps, and present their work to peers and judges. In turn, goIT participants are introduced to design thinking as a problem-solving framework, acquire critical thinking experience while troubleshooting designs, improve their ability to work in teams, and refine their communication skills through public presentations. This camp is FREE of cost due to the partnership with Tata Consulting Services Technology Awareness Programn.

Reading Camp

Athletics and As Camp

During this camp, students will alternate between play and study. Through this interactive approach, students will learn the importance of a healthy lifestyle and how athletics can enhance their grades. During study time - students will work in small groups with teachers, engage in online programs with a prescriptive approach to their learning needs, and learn how to be empowered to do their best.

6th Grade Success Camp

Students in this camp will work with the Administration and Restorative Practice coach to learn essential skills needed for 6th grade.

Maker Camp: Hackathon

This camp is designed with science, technology, robots and learning in mind. If your child loves to think, problem solve and learn with his/her hands this camp will provide your child extension activities that will boost his/her math, science, and problem solving skills.

The Maker Camp Hack-a-Thon event is designed for those students entering ninth through twelfth grade. Hacking is creative problem solving. A hackathon is any event where people come together to solve problems. Students will be involved in solving some real world problems using technology particularly focused on public good. No "techy" background is necessary, just bring your desire to learn, collaborate and creatively problem solve. The camp will include a Learn-a-Thon with workshop sessions to build foundational knowledge to help teams create amazing solutions. This camp challenges students to identify ways to make a positive change in the communities in which they live and to think about solutions for big social problems related to the public good. Students will create a digital prototype and demo presentation to showcase their idea. On the final day of camp, all students will present their finished products! Cost is $25.
