Herbert Ivory, Principal of Ferndale High School, was raised in the Ferndale School district as a resident of the Charter Township of Royal Oak, and is a proud alumnus of Grant School and Ferndale High School. Mr. Ivory has served the young people of the Ferndale Schools community throughout his professional career. He began his career as a social studies teacher at FHS in 1969, served as Principal of the former Grant Elementary School, Assistant Principal at FHS, and he has been Principal of the high school since 1998. His deep concern and commitment to all his students have always supported his belief in creating harmonious relationships in a diverse community environment. Mr. Ivory has an extraordinary ability to relate well to students, bridge differences, resolve conflicts, and genuinely touch the lives of his students, school families, community members, and his staff.
Herbert Ivory received the Southern Oakland County NAACP 2006 Freedom Fighter Award and for his outstanding lifelong contribution to the Ferndale Schools and thousands of young people in our community throughout his career.
