Dear Parents,
Spring is here and not a moment too soon! The weather is getting warmer, the days are longer, and the students are getting livelier. FMS is abuzz with activity and that is always a good thing.
I am writing this letter to ask for your help with the “students are getting livelier” portion. The staff and I have noticed an increase in students running, tripping, hitting, tapping and pushing. Please understand that the students are not trying to be mean to one another; they see it as “just playing.” However, the playing is getting out of hand. Some students are getting hurt by this overly playful behavior.
How can you help? Please remind your student(s) to keep hands and feet to themselves. I recently stated on the public address system that staff and administration will begin sending students home for rough behavior. We cannot and will not tolerate some of the roughhousing that has occurred lately.
In addition, at the end of the school day, students are expected to be in a supervised activity or to leave campus by 2:50pm. We do not have the necessary supervision to assure the safety of students who are “just hanging around.”
Our main concern is the safety and well-being of ALL students at FMS. I know we can count on your support in that endeavor. Together we can make sure that spring ushers in the promise of a wonderful, safe, healthy and happy summer. Thanks for your help, and as always, please feel free to contact me, 248/586-8830, should you have any questions or concerns.
