John F. Kennedy School offers a K-6 elementary school format with two magnet programs:
1) Multi-Age Program focuses on a multi-age primary instructional format; and
2) Open Classroom Program emphasizes self-directed learning and strong parent involvement.
Both magnet programs provide a complete focus on instruction in the core curriculum areas. Daily science investigations provide a foundation in life, physical and earth sciences. Math instruction focuses on developing problem solving skills and mastering basic computation. Reading skills are developed though the five elements of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Daily writing assignments support instruction. Language arts and social studies enhance literacy while fostering the ability to make a positive contribution as a world citizen.
Students in fourth through sixth grades have band and orchestra instruction that follows district guidelines, fifth and sixth graders study Spanish daily. All students receive instruction in music, art and physical education throughout the school year.
