About the Principal
Derek Adams is the principal at Kennedy School. Mr. Adams began his teaching career in 2004 at a charter school in Dearborn Heights, and has been with the Ferndale Public Schools since 2006, serving as a Spanish teacher at Ferndale Middle School and JFK (2 years). Beyond the school day, Mr. Adams was very involved in the school. He took a leadership role on his school’s School Improvement Team and has coached FMS girls basketball, softball and volleyball.
Mr. Adams was the 2011-2012 Ferndale Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year.
He holds a BA in Spanish and an MA in Curriculum and Education from Michigan State University. He was born and raised in Portugal and he and his wife have two young children.
“I have felt so welcomed by parents, students, staff, and the community. I am happy and excited to be able to continue to make a difference in this community and in our student's learning,” Mr. Adams says. “It is up to educators to motivate and guide students as lifelong learners.”
