Roosevelt is just one of many Reading First schools in the state and throughout our nation. Reading first is a federal initiative that provides federal dollars to help schools improve children’s reading skills. Our teachers and staff put in lots of extra time, energy and dedication to meet the mandates of this federal grant. Teachers meet weekly after school with the Title One Coach for professional development opportunities as well as attend many other training sessions specifically related to Reading First. Our Reading First Literacy Coach works with classroom teachers to continually improve reading techniques and strategies. Our Literacy Coach also manages the data that drives instruction.
