On Thursday, October 18, 2018, University High School’s C2 Pipeline went on a field trip to the University of Detroit- Mercy’s School of Dentistry. 23 students in grades 9th - 12th attended the trip and got firsthand insight on what it takes to become a Dentist. This field trip was the final phase of a three- part series with the college.
Part one: the Assistant Director of Inclusion and Diversity along with a student in her final year at the school of dentist came to visit UHS C2 Pipeline and gave students an overview of the field of Dentistry.
Part two: the Assistant Director of Inclusion hosted a mini career panel for students at UHS. The mini panel included a dentistry student, a law student, and a pre-med student. This panel was to give students insight on different career pathways.
The final phase was the field trip! The field trip included a presentation from the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Dentistry Admissions, a tour of the school, a visit to the gross anatomy lab (students were able to see cadavers, touch them and learn more about how the school of Dentistry utilizes them), and lastly they were able to make dental imprints. This series was a wonderful experience for our students and we look forward to partnering with the University of Detroit- Mercy again!
