Ferndale orchestra teacher Ben Moy was named Teacher of the Year for District 4 by the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association (MSBOA). Fittingly, Moy, who also swings a mean lightsaber, learned he had received the award on May 4th (May the 4th Be With You), also known as international Star Wars Day.
Congratulations, Ben. We're so glad you have been recognized outside the district for the amazing work we have grown to appreciate over the years.
The Ferndale Elementary Staff and Students celebrated an amazing month of reading with our Camp Read S'More family reading night. Kids and families explored the school, participating in literacy activities, making arts and crafts, browsing the amazing reading-decorated doors of FUEL, and celebrating their commitment to reading! Special thanks to all of the teachers and staff members who created and led the fun stations!
The Ferndale Elementary 2nd and 3rd grade Math Pentathletes participated this past Saturday at the Math Pentathlon Division 2 Competition. The kids did a fabulous job, showing great sportsmanship and working hard to great success! A special thank you and shout out to MP advisors, Gianna Cuda and Tricia Venzke, for all of their hard work and commitment to our kids all year long!

The FUEL healthy cooking club is officially up and running! On February 16th, chef and owner, Jessica Norwood from Om Cafe joined the class. Om Cafe is a wonderful restaurant serving delicious and healthy vegan & vegetarian dishes right here in Ferndale. Chef Jessica demonstrated knife skills and gave cooking tips as she guided their culinary experience. The class prepared a cauliflower rice stir fry. Each week the students take home the recipe they prepare to make with their family. The group has two more cooking classes left and is looking forward to cooking and trying more tasty dishes together.
FUEL 4th graders had an amazing outdoor education experience in this week as they traveled to Camp Copneconic in Fenton, MI for an overnight outdoor experience. 130 4th graders attended camp and built community while enjoying a number of fun-filled activities led by camp staff. Special thanks to our PAC group for their support and planning of the camp program and helping to make this experience possible for our students.
