FHS Dance & Cheer Hypes the Crowd Year Round
The FHS Dance & Cheer Team—lead by community member Erynn Paris—has been practicing & performing throughout the summer, and is excited to continue bringing the hype to our Ferndale Eagles Football games. You may not know that our Dance & Cheer Team is active all year long!
Then dance team participates in Poms competitions around the region. Last January, the team took home a Judges Choice Award - The Special Sauce Award for their performance, energy, and choreography at the Dance Force Xpress Pom competition.
The squad even got together to perform at Oak Park’s State of the City at Linear Park on June 28, 2022.

Erynn also leads the Youth Dance program, with youth classes returning this fall. This past July, she welcomed 20 campers for a 1 week introduction to tumbling, jumps, sideline cheers, a halftime dance and much more! Camp was July 18-22 ending with a live performance from our campers for family & friends on the FHS Football Field! Parents can look FHS Youth Dance Program beginning soon and a Youth Cheer x Dance Camp in December.

The Ferndale High Lady Eagles dream team has qualified states again, in team and individual events.
- In the 100m Dash Tyra Thompson qualified for the state meet with a season & personal best of 12.90 placing 2nd to automatically qualify.
- In the 200m Dash Najah Williams qualified for the state meet with a season & personal best as well coming in at 26.63 moving her within 1 second of the school record.
- Najah Williams also qualified for the state meet in the 400m dash for the second time with a seasons best of 1:00.43 placing 1st defending her regional title from last year.

finished 2nd with a blazing time of 1:49.67, dropping a full 3 seconds and placing them in the top 25 in the state. This automatically qualifies them for State Competition, for a 2nd straight year.

Headspace, the internationally recognized mental wellness, and meditation app, is now FREE for children 13-18 years old in the US. Featuring mental health exercises, guided meditations, and other tools, Headspace is an amazing tool for developing and maintaining self-regulation practice in your daily life. On Wednesday FHS science teacher Ryan Dunlap took biology students to Ferndale's Garbutt Park to be a part of a tree planting event. With the aid of Ferndale's Department of Public Works, the students learned about the benefits of urban trees and learned the tree planting process. The students then dug in–literally–as they created large holes and planted 10 tulip trees. The students enjoyed learning to use new tools and taking an active role in the beautification of the city.
