Would you like your student to earn an Associates degree while in high school? They can through Oakland Accelerated College Experience (ACE) or Oakland Technical Early College (OTEC). Both programs are three years long, and begin when students are in the 11th grade. If accepted to either program, students take high school and college courses in grades 11 and 12, and finish the program full time at OCC in “year 13.” ACE focuses on preparing students for a 4-year university while OTEC focuses on preparing students for high demand, high wage careers. Each program requires current 10th grade students to complete an application and be accepted in order to participate.
To learn more about the programs, please plan to attend our virtual Early College Informational Meeting on Thursday Febraury 16th, 2023, from 6:00 pm–7:00 pm in the University High School Media Center. While only current 10th graders can apply, we also encourage students and parents of current middle school and 9th grade students to attend this meeting.

February is Black History Month, but we support Black History education and our Black community everyday. Please visit our resource page at FerndaleSchools.org/BHM to find some great ways to show your support and educate yourself. Special activities are going on in our schools this month to honor the legacy of a beautiful culture that has blossomed out of such tragic beginnings.
It's important to remember that Black History month is more than just a highlight reel of Black accomplishments and Black tragedies. As President Obama said in 2016, "We know that this should be more than just a commemoration of particular events. It’s about the lived, shared experience of all African Americans, high and low, famous and obscure, and how those experiences have shaped and challenged and ultimately strengthened America. It’s about taking an unvarnished look at the past so we can create a better future."
