Fern & Dale's Funshine Camp (Preschool)

Students Ages 3-5 • Must be potty trained to attend

June 21 - August 12 (closed July 5-9)

Drop off your children for a camp-like experience filled with educational fun. Each week features a different theme for ‘campers’ to experience new avenues to learn, explore and play.

Children will receive a healthy snack each day, but children must provide their own  lunches. The day will consist of outdoor exploring, teacher read-alouds, learning centers, nap/rest time, and child-initiated play.


Camp Cost

$40 per day

Early Registration - April 12 — May 1st: $35
Late Registration - Closes May 31st: $50

Elementary Summer Program

FPS is excited to offer a robust summer school program paired with an exciting camp opportunity during the summer of 2021!  Our programming will offer our current K-5 students opportunities to grow and expand their academic and social-emotional skills in our summer school classrooms while having fun with their teachers and friends!  We will offer both in-person and virtual experiences to meet the needs of all of our families.

FPS’ Eagle Explorers Camp will offer summer school students the option to add hours of fun to their day. Students will engage in daily camp activities that are STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) while also enjoying time outdoors with their friends.  Eagle Explorers Camp is only offered to students who are enrolled in a concurrent summer school session. 

Families may register for summer school (Session 1, Session 2 or both Sessions 1 & 2) and concurrent camp sessions.  Families may register for summer school only, but camp is not offered without concurrent summer school enrollment.

For Summer 2021, we will be offering In-Person and Distance Learning options

Elementary Summer School:
Distance Learning

Students can select distance learning to complete the course of study online with synchronous instruction.

  • Certified teachers will use FPS curriculum resources

  • Multi-age and flexible grouping classrooms

  • Synchronous instruction using Google Meet

  • Take-home materials provided

Elementary Summer School:
In-Person Learning

All current K-5 students will attend at Ferndale Lower Elementary School — 2610 Pinecrest — when selecting the in-person learning option.

  • Certified teachers will use FPS curriculum resources for all summer schools.
  • Class sizes will be smaller than traditional classes
  • Safety protocols must be followed View Safety Protocols »
  • Flexible grouping to meet the needs of all students
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided
  • Bus transportation available

Eagle Explorers Camp

Students attending Elementary Summer School Sessions may also stay at school for Eagle Explorers Camp. There is no cost to extend attendance to include the afternoon camp session.

All dates and safety protocols will be the same for Summer School & Eagle Explorers Camp.

Safety Protocols

To protect students, teachers, staff, and our community, we will be enforcing the following safety protocols.

  • Smaller in-person class sizes *

  • Students will remain in a cohort class *

  • Masks will be worn by students and staff except for when eating

  • Social distancing will be supported when possible

  • Classrooms and buses will be sanitized

  • Students will participate in hand-washing and hand-sanitization protocols

  • Lessons, lunches, and activities will occur outside when possible

  • A Covid Health Safety Room will separate any students with symptoms

  • Seating charts will be utilized to facilitate contact tracing if necessary *

Note: items marked with an * will not be enforced during camp hours (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm)

Is it possible to register for less than 4 days a week or for individual weeks?

No, FPS is offering two 3-week sessions.  It is important that students attend continuous sessions in order to maintain continuity of learning.  

Can I register my child for Session 2 if I don’t register them for Session 1?

Yes, our skilled teachers individualize instruction, so each child is met where they are in terms of learning.

Is Session 2 a repeat of Session 1?

No, each session will have unique content.

Can my child take the bus home if they are only attending summer school hours and not staying for camp hours?

Yes, FPS will offer busing to Summer School and busing home after Summer School (1:00 PM) as well as after Camp (4:00 PM).

My child has allergies.  How will this be handled?

We continue to use our regular food service provider (Chartwells) for our summer program, and will continue to operate an allergen-free program following the Ferndale K-5 protocols.

I am planning to be out of town for a portion of the program. What should I do?

Discuss your plans with the Elementary Summer School Coordinator and your child’s summer school teacher.

Is there an option for additional before and after care?

No, our summer programming does not include before and after care, beyond the 9:00 AM — 4:00 PM session window.

Will my child have their teacher?

It is unlikely that your child will have their current teacher for summer school, although it is possible.

 



Middle School Summer Program

FPS is excited to offer a robust summer school program during the summer of 2021!  Our programming will offer our current 6-8 students opportunities to grow and expand their academic and social-emotional skills in our summer school classrooms while having fun with their teachers and friends!  We will offer both in-person and virtual experiences to meet the needs of all of our families. 

Families may register for either summer school Session 1, Session 2 or both Sessions. Different material will be covered in each session.

High School Summer Programs

High School Summer School programming is available to students who need additional support, based on a range of student performance data. Families will be contacted individually later in the school year to discuss student needs.


IMPORTANT NOTE:

Students and Families will be contacted about Summer Programs if a need is identified. Student performance and growth metrics are still be collected and assessed. More information will become available in the coming weeks.


 

8th Grade Bridge

9th grade is a very important year in high school as it sets the stage for students’ success. Our Virtual 8th Grade Bridge Program is designed to help students successfully make the leap from middle to high school. Our 8th Grade Bridge Program will help students:

  • Prepare for the rigors of high school

  • Understand the differences between middle school and high school

  • Understand the importance of a high school transcript

  • Build executive skills

  • Learn how to prioritize

  • Academic skill building

  • Build relationships with other students and staff

Our staff is committed to helping our 8th grade students begin high school with all the skills they need!
