Back to School
It's that time again. Back to school shopping and planning is in full swing, and we know you're very busy. Keep an eye on your mail box as back to school information will be arriving soon!
All student contacts listed in MIStar will have Canvas parent accounts that will provide them with access to their student's classes and grades (parents and students should check Canvas for grades and missing assignments. MiStar should be checked for attendance and report card grades). Directions for accessing your account can be found in this document
If you need help accessing your Canvas parent account, please reach out to Tom Maes at firstname.lastname@example.org or 248-586-8666

COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION (CEP)
We are pleased to inform you that all Ferndale Schools will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the School Year 2023-2024.
The GREAT NEWS is that under this program ALL students enrolled in Ferndale Schools can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE each day regardless of your Free/Reduced eligibility.
In place of the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application we still need your household to fill out and sign the Education Benefits Form This form is critical in determining the amount of money that our school receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At-risk (31a), Title II A, E-Rate, etc. So while each student will receive free meals regardless, it is vital to our other programs that all families fill out this form to ensure we do not see a drop in our supplemental funding.
For more information visit: https://www.ferndaleschools.org/district/food-services/
If you have any questions on the school lunch program please call 248-586-8668.
A La Carte Item Purchases
Middle School & High School Students may also purchase additional items, using their school account only. No cash, check or other payments will be accepted this year. If you would like to add money to your student’s account for a la cart cafe snack items or bottled beverages, you can follow these steps:
Communication Tools We Use
- Ensure that Remind has current phone and email information for you by checking the MISTAR Parent Portal. After logging in, click My Information in the upper right corner of the screen. Make any needed changes to your phone or email information and updates will be sent to Remind within 24 hours.
- Review and Update your Notification Preferences
- Need to change the way your name appears in Remind?
If you are not receiving communications from Remind via either email, phone, or text, you may need to update your contact information in MISTAR. To do this, or to use MISTAR for anything else, access your account through the MISTAR Student Connect Portal or MISTAR Parent Portal.
More MISTAR Help
Returning Ferndale Schools parents and students will have the same pin and password.
Your pin and password are valid throughout your Ferndale Schools enrollment.
Parents and students please keep your pin and password in safe place. MISTAR pin and password will only be available electronically. A valid email address must be on file with the school district in order to obtain a pin and password electronically.
The district’s student information system, MISTAR, has a feature which allows parents/guardians (and students) to view your student’s information through the internet. You can view grades, attendance, cafeteria use, biographical and contact information.
When will bus assignment be announced?
You will receive a letter in the mail with your child's bus assignment. If you have not received a letter in the mail by Thursday, August 18th, contact our transportation department: 248-586-8890.

Nuts & Allergens: Safe Snack
This is a reminder that FECC, the Lower Elementary, and FUEL are all nut-, tree nut-, and sesame-restricted buildings. Please be mindful when packing school lunches and snacks that items can not contain nuts, tree nuts, or sesame. Please check packages carefully and review our Safe Snacks list. Working together, we will continue to provide a safe school experience for all our children - and we thank you in advance for supporting all of our students.
Please remember, FUEL also has a no-cake, no-cupcakes rule for birthday celebrations. Please follow safe snack guidelines for any birthday celebrations or consider a non-food treat. Book or game donations to the classroom in honor of your child is always a great alternative to a food celebration!
Medical Authorization and Medical Release Form
If your child has a severe medical condition or allergy that could potentially require medical attention at school (i.e. a food allergy, bee sting allergy, asthma), we will need a medical authorization form and medication release form. Both of these should be submitted to the FUEL office by the first day of school, along with any accompanying medications (Epi-pens, Benedryl, etc).
This pamphlet was created to show all the athletic offerings for both Ferndale High School and Ferndale Middle School. UHS students are invited to participate in any FHS athletics teams not offered by UHS. Many sports run off-season conditioning and summer schedules including games and practices. For further information regarding those programs please contact the Ferndale Athletic office at 248-586-8740.
All student athletes must have a physical on file to be eligible to condition, try out, practice or compete in any sport and this physical must be dated after April 15, 2023 to be eligible for the 2023-24 school year.
