This week, Ms. Moorhead’s Art 2 students at Ferndale High School took their watercolor skills outside to paint “en plein air,” a French term that means “in the open air.” This approach allows artists to capture the natural light, color, and atmosphere of a scene as they see it in the moment. Students have been learning different watercolor techniques in class—like wet-on-wet, layering, and how to create texture. They put their new skills to use while capturing the beautiful fall colors in our school courtyard.
It was the perfect way to enjoy the crisp autumn weather, connect with nature, and see how light and color change in real time.
