FERNDALE, Mich. — Ferndale Schools will celebrate Homecoming Week Sept. 21–26, bringing together students, staff, families, alumni and the Ferndale community for a week of school spirit, tradition and celebration.
Homecoming festivities will culminate Friday, Sept. 25, with the annual Homecoming Parade and Ferndale High School football game against Avondale High School in an OAA Gold League matchup.
“This is one of those special times of the year when you can really see the pride our students, staff, alumni and community have in Ferndale Schools,” said Superintendent Camille Hibbler. “Homecoming gives us an opportunity to celebrate our current students while also welcoming generations of Eagles back home to reconnect with the schools and community that helped shape them.”
Homecoming Week activities include:
FHS Spirit Week: Meme Monday; Dress Like It’s 2016; White Lies Wednesday; Jersey Day (“Get Your Head in the Game”); and Class Colors Friday.
UHS Spirit Week: Student-Teacher Swap; Anything But a Backpack; Pajama Day; Generations Day; and Twin Day.
Homecoming Parade: Friday, Sept. 25. Staging will take place from 3:30–4:15 p.m. on Planavon Street between W. Nine Mile Road and Withington Street, with the parade stepping off at 4:30 p.m.
FHS Alumni Tours: The Class of 1966 will tour Ferndale High School at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, followed by the Classes of 1986 and 1996 at 5 p.m.
Homecoming Football Game: Ferndale High School will host Avondale High School in an OAA Gold League matchup at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
Homecoming Court: Ferndale High School and University High School Homecoming Court representatives will be recognized during halftime, followed by a performance from the Ferndale High School Marching Band.
FHS Homecoming Dance: Saturday, Sept. 26, from 7–10 p.m. with a “Rio Carnival” theme.
UHS Homecoming Dance: Saturday, Sept. 26, from 7–10 p.m. with a “Tropical Noir: Exotic Island Paradise Meets Dark, Vintage Mystery” theme.
This year’s celebration will also serve as a homecoming in the truest sense for generations of Ferndale alumni. The district will recognize several milestone reunion classes, including the Classes of 1975 and 1976 celebrating 50 years, the Class of 1986 celebrating 40 years and the Class of 1996 celebrating 30 years.
A section of the home bleachers will be reserved specifically for Ferndale High School alumni. Located on the north end of the home bleachers near the accessible ramp, the designated section will provide alumni with a dedicated space to reconnect and enjoy the game together. Throughout the evening, the stadium announcer will recognize the Classes of 1975 and 1976, 1986 and 1996, along with all Ferndale High School alumni in attendance.
The Classes of 1975 and 1976 also participated in an alumni tour on Sept. 18 as part of their 50-year reunion celebration.
Ferndale Schools invites families, alumni and community members to join students and staff throughout Homecoming Week and especially on Friday, Sept. 25, as the district celebrates current students, honors generations of alumni and showcases the Eagle pride that connects the Ferndale community.
