Ferndale Middle School Robotics delivered an outstanding performance December 13–14 at the FTC Michigan Southeast State Championship in Grand Blanc, with all three Ferndale teams competing and Giggle Pickles earning a repeat State Championship.
Giggle Pickles (Team 24253) went undefeated in qualifying rounds (7-0), finished #1 overall in the Woodie Flowers Division, and partnered with Team 23623 Hydra Dragons from Waldon Middle School. After an early playoff setback, the alliance responded with four consecutive wins to claim the Division Title and secure the State Championship with a 301-258 Finals victory in a drama filled best 2 of 3 finale.
Screaming Eagles (Team 13002) opened the event with a strong 5-0 start and showcased one of the most innovative robots in the field, featuring a unique end-game lift system. While narrowly missing the playoff cut, the team demonstrated significant growth from earlier competitions this season and earned the 3rd Place Innovate Award in recognition of their engineering design and creativity.
Electric Bacon (Team 13733) competed in a highly competitive field and finished the event 2-5, with several matches decided by narrow margins. Their highlight came in Qualification Match 48, when they defeated fellow Ferndale team and previously undefeated Screaming Eagles 150-123, marking one of the event’s standout moments.
We are extremely proud of all three Ferndale Middle School robotics teams. The repeat championship by Giggle Pickles, combined with the innovation and continued growth shown by Screaming Eagles and Electric Bacon, highlights Ferndale’s premier FIRST Tech Challenge robotics program and the dedication of its students, coaches, and mentors.
