17 Ferndale HS students participated in MSBOA State Solo & Ensemble Festival this past Saturday at Warren Cousino HS, in 15 separate events, mostly solos, with a few small ensembles. To attend State, the event must have earned a 1 (Superior) ratings at the District Festival. 14 of the 15 events earned 1 (Superior) ratings at State!
Of particular note is Stella Klein, a sophomore violist, who earned a perfect 100 score on the Proficiency 1 exam. Proficiency Exams require students to play their solo, multiple scales from memory, and sight-read. All soloists in grades 10-11-12 must do a Proficiency Exam. This is the first perfect score for the Ferndale Music Department in recent memory. Congratulations, Stella!
Based on this rating, Stella is one of six violas across the entire state invited to a select Honors Chamber Orchestra, and one of two Michigan student viola players invited to the MSBOA Outstanding Soloist Competition. #EagleExcellence
