FERNDALE, Mich. — Ferndale Public Schools continues making strategic investments that strengthen learning environments, support students and staff, and position the district for continued success during the 2026-27 school year.
From major facility improvements funded through the 2025 Bond Program to responsible budget planning and ongoing recruitment efforts, the district remains committed to delivering safe, modern learning environments while maintaining strong fiscal stewardship.

Preparing for the 2026-27 School Year
District leaders are developing the 2026-27 budget, with a continued emphasis on fiscal responsibility, long-term financial stability and strategic investments that directly benefit students.
Like school districts across Michigan, Ferndale Public Schools continues to navigate increasing operational costs while protecting high-quality educational programming, student supports, school safety initiatives and staff resources.
The district also continues recruitment and retention efforts to ensure students are supported by outstanding educators and staff members as preparations begin for the upcoming school year.
Summer Bond Projects Continue
Construction funded through Ferndale Public Schools' 2025 Bond Program will continue throughout Summer 2026-27 as the district advances significant improvements to learning, athletic and performing arts spaces.
This summer's work at Ferndale High School includes:
Renovation of the softball and baseball fields
Construction of a new scene shop building addition
Addition of a new dressing room
Auditorium renovations featuring:
New seating
Updated flooring
Stage improvements
New curtains
Modern lighting
Enhanced audio systems
Lavatory renovations throughout the building
Renovation of the high school gymnasium locker rooms
Approximately $2 million will be invested in athletic field improvements, while approximately $7 million will be allocated to new additions and interior renovations.
Planning also continues for future phases of the district's bond program. Current design work includes renovations to classrooms, performing arts spaces, courtyards, parking areas, infrastructure improvements and student learning environments across the district as additional bid packages move forward.
These projects represent the district's continued commitment to providing students with modern, safe and engaging spaces that support learning, extracurricular activities and community use.

Oakland County Regional Enhancement Millage
Ferndale Public Schools encourages residents to learn more about the Oakland County Regional Enhancement Millage, which will appear on the Aug. 4, 2026 ballot.
If approved, the proposal would levy 1.5 mills for six years (2026-2031) to provide additional operating funding for every public school district and eligible public school academy in Oakland County.
The proposal is estimated to provide approximately $781 per student annually, or $4,686 per student over the life of the millage.
Unlike bond funding, which can only be used for capital improvements, enhancement millage funding supports district operations. If approved, local school boards determine how the funding is used to meet the unique needs of their students and communities. Potential investments include:
Recruiting and retaining high-quality staff
Maintaining or reducing class sizes where possible
Student wellness supports
School safety and security
Professional learning for staff
Strengthening academic programming
If approved, all funding would go directly to local public school districts and eligible public school academies. Oakland Schools would not retain any of the revenue.
