FERNDALE, Mich. — Three Ferndale Middle School robotics teams, the Giggle Pickles, Electric Bacon and The Screaming Eagles, will gather at “the nest” on Saturday, Sept. 12, to watch the livestream reveal of BioBuzz, the 2026–2027 FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competition game.
The kickoff marks the official starting point for a season of student collaboration, creative problem-solving and robot design. During the livestream, students will get their first look at the game and its basic rules. The competition manual will also be released, giving teams the detailed requirements that will guide their work throughout the season.
After the reveal, the teams will break into groups to brainstorm ideas for robot subsystems and review the design and game rules. Students will begin turning a new challenge into a plan, putting critical thinking, idea development, defining specifications and iterative design into practice.
The event also marks the first formal robotics gathering for the program’s new sixth-grade students. Returning team members will have an opportunity to put their leadership skills to work as they help newcomers navigate the challenge and contribute ideas.
For all three teams, Saturday’s kickoff begins a shared mission: learn the game, explore possibilities and work together to build the best robot they can.
