Plan Document

FERNDALE, Mich — Ferndale Public Schools today shared a facilities plan that will relocate the district's Central Administration offices to the Tri-County Educational Center (TCEC), renovate the shared Ferndale Middle School/Ferndale High School building, and temporarily move Ferndale Middle School students and staff to the Roosevelt building during construction. TCEC students and staff will remain on-site, along with Central Administration.

"We're investing in our buildings because we're investing in our students," said Superintendent Camille Hibbler. "Every one of these moves gets our students, families and staff closer to spaces that match the quality of the people inside them. And even as we've planned this work, our enrollment has remained steady, a sign of the trust families continue to place in Ferndale Public Schools."

The plan centers on three connected moves. Central Administration will relocate from the Roosevelt building, where it is currently located, to TCEC, a building Royal Oak Township has used for its own municipal offices for more than twenty years. The Township will relocate as part of this same plan, and Ferndale Public Schools is grateful for that long partnership; the district will share the Township's plans and next steps when it is ready.

That move frees the Roosevelt building to serve as temporary swing space for Ferndale Middle School students and staff while their current building, shared with Ferndale High School, undergoes renovation. Ferndale High School students will remain in that building throughout the project, using the space Ferndale Middle School leaves behind as additional swing space during construction.

Central Administration's move to TCEC is targeted for spring 2027. Ferndale Middle School's move to the Roosevelt building is targeted for summer 2027, ahead of the 2027–28 school year. Renovation of the Ferndale Middle School/Ferndale High School building is expected to take approximately two and a half to three years from the start of construction. Dates may move sooner as planning continues.

Families, staff and community members are invited to a virtual town hall on Thursday, October 8 at 4:30 p.m. to learn more about the plan and ask questions directly. Join information, the full project timeline and answers to frequently asked questions are available on the webpage. A short video message from Superintendent Hibbler is also available.
