FERNDALE, Mich. — Ferndale Public Schools Deputy Superintendent Felicia Wright met Oct. 29 with Robert Seeley, chief of emergency management for Oakland County, to discuss the district's emergency reunification plan.

Reunification is the process schools use to safely return students to their parents or guardians after an emergency, such as an evacuation or a building closure. During the meeting, Seeley shared several options and resources for the district to explore as it continues to strengthen its emergency preparedness and reunification procedures.

“Planning for an emergency is work we do long before we ever need it,” Wright said. “Oakland County Emergency Management brings expertise and resources that make our plans stronger, and we are grateful for Robert Seeley’s time and guidance. Our families deserve to know that if something happens, we have a clear plan to bring every student safely back to them.”

Seeley also commended Wright for her proactive leadership in seeking assistance, building collaborative partnerships and keeping open lines of communication with Oakland County Emergency Management.

The meeting is part of the district’s ongoing work to keep school safety at the forefront of its emergency preparedness efforts in every building. It also reinforces the importance of continued collaboration between the district and the county to protect the safety and well-being of students, staff and families during an emergency.

“Safety is the foundation for everything that happens in our classrooms,” said Superintendent Camille Hibbler. “Our partnership with Oakland County Emergency Management shows how seriously we take that responsibility. It is one more way we are preparing to protect our students, staff and families.”

Ferndale Public Schools will continue working with Oakland County Emergency Management as it reviews the options discussed and refines its reunification procedures.
